So happy to see my foodie besties after eight freakin’ months!!! Bonded over steak, wings, and pasta at Blake’s, then nachos and cakes at Quina. Missing the rest of the gang as well, so hoping to have some KBBQ bonding soon!

Realized that it’s the 23rd while looking for somewhere to have lunch. Ended up at El Heneral Ribs & Wings Co. along Gil Fernando Avenue. Too bad they only had one order of wings left! I wanted to try at least 2 variants. Anyway, we had their Bravo garlic lime parmesan, and bravo for its yumminess! Surprisingly, we also liked the sisig carbonara pasta, while the fries had generous amounts of cheese and bacon. Unfortunately, their barbecue ribs were too sweet, but the grilled corn that came with it was superb! Overall, I’d still want to go back and try their other wing flavors. Happy 81st, dear! 🙂
When I was in 5th grade, I clearly remember impersonating Ebenezer Scrooge in my English class. I was so fascinated with that grumpy character who later became nice. Never thought he’d be the inspiration for a restaurant, but Ebeneezers in BGC sure is not a scrooge! The restaurant fuses two concepts that aren’t usually associated together: healthy and naughty! Those are incorporated into the food and the overall feel of the place.
On the first floor, you’ll see the shawarma and salad bar. For the shawarma, you have 4 choices: Halal Moroccan Lamb, Premium Grass-fed Angus Steak, Organic Chicken, and Breakfast Shawarma. The first two are seasoned with Moroccan and Lebanese spices respectively, while the chicken is marinated in yogurt, turmeric, and ginger. All three are quite hefty and have a good mix of meat and vegetables. The breakfast shawarma, on the other hand, has Angus beef tapa, scrambled egg, and garlic rice. It’s difficult to choose a favorite because each shawarma has a distinct flavor, which is further enhanced by Ebeneezer’s array of dips/sauces.
You can partner your shawarma with falafel – huge pieces of freshly-made, hand-pressed chickpeas, rolled into balls and flavored with coriander and select spices. I think they’re so chunky and fine, but need more flavor, especially salt, which Ebeneezers can easily provide (ask for salt mixed with lemon and pepper for a tastier experience).
As for the salads, oh my goodness, the fun begins in choosing what to include in your small or large bowl! Their ingredients are so colorful and mouthwatering to look at, and the possible salad combinations are endless! Yes, you get to choose! Strawberries, grapes, watermelon, apples (both green and red), cheese, various greens, eggs, chicken, and a lot more! You then choose your dressing: citrus vinaigrette or raspberry chia.
Already full? Hey, that’s just the first half of what Ebeneezers offers! On the second floor, you’ll find what they call “The Naughty Room.” Nah, there are no whips or chains there, but a cozy, mini bar where you can just chill or even have a meal with your friends or colleagues, especially after a long day at work! Aside from a selection of alcoholic beverages, they also have some really good bar chows!
If you’re looking for something light, I highly recommend their Zucchini Blossoms. They don’t look appealing, but once you bite a piece, it’ll be a cheesy explosion (they use Feta for these goodies)! Every piece also has olives, lemon zest, and herbs.
Another bar chow I really enjoyed is the beef salpicao!!! Had we not been tasting a lot of food, I would have asked for rice! It’s garlicky and sweet, but the sweetness isn’t overwhelming. Flavor-wise, it’s so spot on, but the tenderness of the beef could still be improved as what we ate was still gummy.
Then of course, they also have the ever staple pulutan, wings. Ebeneezers has spicy apricot wings, which have just the right amount of sweet-spicy goodness and are generously sprinkled with sesame seeds. They aren’t cut into two, so eating each piece seems more satisfying! However, like the salpicao, the lollipop part of the wing was a little bit tough to bite into.
Finally, we also tasted the 45-day Dry Age Burger, which came with thick cut fries. This flavorful burger has a dry-aged, grass-fed Angus beef patty with sautéed mushrooms, “bio-dynamic” (similar to organic farming, but with spiritual and mystical aspects) mixed greens, truffle essence, spicy tomato harissa jam, and Gruyère cheese. Not sure if it was just me, but I noticed a bitter, but not unpleasant, aftertaste. Perhaps it was the cheese? Anyway, this is still a good burger. 🙂
Ebeneezers is located at the ground floor of the Net Quad Building on 30th St. corner 4th Avenue in Bonifacio Global City. It’s a chill out place with a nice touch of whimsical naughtiness, which will make you understand that Ebeneezer is a geeze, not a scrooge! 🙂 Thank you to Food for Tata, The Hungry Chef, and Maxie is Super for tagging me along! Many thanks as well to Noel, Chef Joy, and Ms. Icy for hosting us! 🙂 Will be updating this post once I publish the vlog on my YouTube channel! 🙂
Lilac Street in SSS Village Marikina continues to grow gastronomically as there seems to be a new munch place every month, and for a foodie like me, I don’t mind it at all! 😀 The latest craze to hit Marikina’s version of Maginhawa Street is Brad and Pit’s Ribshack, and yes, they serve ribs! Last week, I, along with Roni of All Over Marikina and Migs of Inside Marikina, was able to finally try this Cuban-themed dining place – a far cry from the originally Chinese-themed restaurant that it replaced (East Harbour).
Upon entering, I was impressed with how the place looks. It’s such a stark contrast to its predecessor because of its vibrant vibe and cool decorations. The place is inspired by the movie, “Chef,” where the lead character decided to pursue his passion for Cuban cuisine. The walls are adorned with quotes written in chalk, while nostalgic items surround the area, such as old beer bottles, one of the first Nokia phone models, a Nintendo family computer, vinyl records, an analog TV, and other vintage stuff. I also like their cute makeshift lamps! 🙂
Their menu is written on a long blackboard, and aside from ribs, they also serve wings, some sides, and milkshakes! I was so curious to try the Cubano sandwich, but since we would be eating rice, I told myself, “Next time!” :p
A recent addition to their menu is the classic fish and chips, which are actually fries that reminded me of Mcdonald’s! Even if they were a bit soggy, they still tasted good. The fish was just ordinary, but unlike the breaded fish of other restaurants, Brad & Pit’s breading was light, so I could still taste the actual fish. At P175 per serving, it’s quite a good catch (literally and figuratively hehe). I hope they could serve it with tartar sauce, though.
Next, we tried their wings. P200 for 6 pairs is a bit pricey for me, but they tasted great! They weren’t too spicy nor too oily, and they were served with honey mustard. Brad and Pit’s also offers combo meals priced at P149: that’s a pair of wings with one side and rice.
Whether they’re spicy or not, wings go well with milkshakes! Okay, maybe alcoholic drinks are the best partners, but hey, the heat has been unbearable these days, so milkshakes will do! I asked for strawberry, but you can also choose from chocolate and vanilla.
Finally, we were presented with a huge serving of ribs, aptly called the “Rib Mountain.” These babies come in 4 serving options: small, medium, large, and extra large. According to co-owner Bradley, ours was the medium serving. We were like, “Medium?! Paano pa kaya ‘yung extra large – doble nito?!” (Medium? What more if this were the extra large serving – double this size?!) This size is suited for 2-3 people already, and at P385, it’s such a steal! Though the meat isn’t the fall-off-the-bone kind, the ribs were still flavorful enough. They are best paired with Brad and Pit’s specialty rice: cargo and burrito. Actually, the latter isn’t included on their menu as of this writing, but IT’S SO GOOD! I could eat the rice on its own! :p
Brad and Pit’s Ribshack is located at 116 Lilac Street, very near the bridge connecting Soliven and Lilac. They are open from 12 noon until 11 pm from Tuesday to Sunday. It’s a good place to indulge in affordable ribs and chill with your buddies or family!
